Experience

For anyone interested in pursuing a career in technology, it is vital to be aware that having a post-graduate degree does not automatically result in gaining a top position at a large, technology-related business.

This is quite a specific and increasingly changing field that expects employees, whether they occupy management positions or not, to have a rich hands on experience in the field. However, in order to make a long-lasting and positive impression during a job interview or when sending a resume to a technology organization, prospective candidates should make their best effort to emphasize their previous professional experience in technology, even if this experience was only at entry level.

Most of the skills required to develop a successful career in technology are not learnt from books, magazines or from analyzing business cases.

Instead, it is achieved by dealing with day-to-day matters and learning from hands-on experience. Most companies are willing to pay for their employees’ academic progress, and help them to achieve an MBA degree.

Going for a general oriented post-graduate program will provide the opportunity to understand that business and profits operate in the same way for each industry, and offer a greater, in-depth understanding of a company’s financial, marketing and legal elements.

There are some MBAs that are oriented to and focused on technology, but there is still no consensus regarding whether these are actually beneficial, especially given that the technology market changes rapidly and employment opportunities may vary considerably.

These post-graduate programs are relatively new to the market, and it is possible to find reviews in specific magazines that deal with technology. As has been said, pursuing a career in technology can be both challenging and exciting. Those interested should try to gain as much experience as possible right from the start.
