Real Estate

Real estate can be a highly challenging niche in which to develop a professional career. One of the aspects that people find most attractive about this industry is that it is tangible. Real estate comprises land and any building constructed on it, the floor below and the sky above. Each day of our lives, we are surrounded by real estate: the place where we live, the office where we work, the gym where we take our fitness classes, the shopping mall where we do our purchases and the grocery store round the corner. The real estate niche is extremely dynamic, but equally very sensitive to even minor shifts.

It is also highly dependent on economic factors that may not be directly related to the industry. For instance, commercial real estate prices can tend to skyrocket if a particular industry is flourishing, as this growth will probably entail a greater demand for manufacturing space, and more residential houses will be constructed around the area.

On the other hand, commercial real estate prices may plummet if the financial situation declines. A similar effect occurs with residential real estate. When prices skyrocket, salaries are not high enough for people to make ends meet, while there may be substantial unemployment issues. Thus the prices of houses and apartments usually face a critical period. This niche is one of the most important in the American economy and its ups and downs, especially since 2005 to the present, are a reflection of the state of the economy. Indeed, real estate experts agree that if current trends continue, this will have a large impact in the industry.

If you are interested in pursuing a career in real estate, completing an MBA can be a good strategy. However, whether you attend a real estate oriented post-graduate course or not is largely irrelevant, as the main objective is to make sure that it provides you with excellent and strong financial skills, and that it allows you to get in touch with people that are part of the industry. According to the position you are interested in occupying in real estate, you may need to have strong financial skills or excellent interpersonal skills, or indeed both. Experts agree that a good balance of both ensures a prospective candidate is highly competitive.

They also emphasize how important it is for anyone willing to develop a successful career in real estate to show how passionate he or she is about this industry, and to readily demonstrate that he can really make a difference in it.
