The most influential advocacy groups are located in Washington DC and they have to keep up with a demanding pace, especially while Congress is in session.

Fundraisers are usually experienced and academically knowledgeable in different areas, and they should have strong writing skills, as they will spend a large proportion of the day writing reports.

Grant-giving organizations donate money to charitable and non-profit organizations in which they trust and with which they feel somewhat identified. Non-profits looking for money approach these grant-giving organizations and, through a proposal, must convince the Board about the importance and necessity of donating.

If you wish to develop a career in non-profits, one of your best options is to become a professional fundraiser. Many people mistakenly believe that a professional fundraiser spends hours begging others for money but, in fact, your days will be devoted to getting to know potential donors, establishing a strong and solid relationship with them, and ensuring that they know the cause your organization supports and the way in which their donation will reach your target.

If you develop your career in non-profit within a grant-giving foundation, your main tasks will be to analyze and study the different proposals you receive, ensuring that they are in synch with the core values your foundation supports.
